Week of October 1st

Language Arts

This week we started with a test over Unit 1 - The Sentence. Many of the students understood the individual lessons; however, the test seemed to be more difficult for them seeing it was a review of the whole unit, despite multiple review sessions and study guides given. Tests were handed back Tuesday. Hopefully, they will learn to study more for the next Unit test.

On Tuesday we began Unit 2 - Nouns. We watched a School House Rock video and the students seemed to catch on quickly. Friday we will culminate the first five lessons with a quiz. The types of nouns covered are common, proper, singular, and plural nouns.

Math

We are now on to Chapter 2 - Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers and Decimals. We are showing the relationship of addition and subtraction. Rounding and estimation are additional lessons covered this week. There should be a quiz over lessons 1-7 (not 6) on Friday.

How to keep up with the right blog!

We are into the third week of school now and you are probably wondering, "What blog should I read?" Here is the answer to your question: "Mrs. Krasnodebski's Blog" - for any class my child goes to with her in her room. "Mrs. Napolitano's Blog" - for all classes my child is in her room. Other fifth grade teacher - if my child is in their class." Does that begin to help you out? If not please email me.

Update!

We have a few changes in assistants for 5th grade. Due to another job offer, Mr. Wansley will be not returning with us this year. We wish him the best of luck with his new endeavors with SASED this upcoming year! Also, Miss Muirada accepted a position in Naperville, so she will also not be returning this year.

We now welcome Mrs. Grischow to 4th & 5th grade! She comes to us with experience from Elizabeth Ide School where she assisted in the Early Childhood Program. She may be a familiar face seeing she is a parent in the district. We are all excited to be working with her in this building!

Also, we are excited to have Mrs. Linde working in 5th grade for a portion of our morning! She should be a very familiar face seeing all children worked with her in P.E. last year. Welcome Mrs. Linde!!

Welcome Back!

Welcome! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. We are happy to be coming back and are ready for a great year. I would like to welcome those students who are returning and those who are new with us this year. Mrs. Krasnodebski will continue as 5th Grade Resource. We will be joined by Mrs. Kleyweg, who has spent the past few years assisting at Prairieview School. Also, we will be joined by Mr. Wansley, who had spent last year assisting in 3rd Grade at Prairieview School. Last, but not least, we welcome Student Teacher Miss Wood. She will be with us the first eight weeks of the school year. We are all looking forward to working with your child and helping him/her to achieve at his/her full potential. We have discussed your child's academic history with his/her classroom teachers and are prepared for the upcoming year.

The parent-teacher relationship is vital to your child's success in school. By working together, we can help your child have a very fulfilling learning experience. We hope to see you at the Open House on Monday, August 27th . If you are able to visit, the resource room is located in the 5th Grade Wing on the second floor. Mrs. Krasnodebski may be reached during school hours at (630) 783-5068. You may leave a voice mail message. Your call will be returned as soon as possible. I may also be reached at my respective e-mail address: jkrasno@ccsd66.org . I tend to be able to respond more quickly when sent a email.

Throughout the year, I will communicate with the home through notes in the assignment notebook, my blog, telephone calls, progress reports, school newsletters and report cards. I will also be available for parent-teacher conferences, as they are needed.
My teaching is based on the premise that all students can learn, despite any obstacles in their path. For that reason, our students receive instruction and support both in the resource room and in the general education classroom. Your child will receive an educational program that encompasses the goals and instructional strategies outlined in his/her Individualized Education Program (IEP). We will work very hard to help your child complete all of his/her goals and objectives. If you have any questions regarding your child's academic performance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The resource room is a classroom like any other. In order to function, it must have rules and policies that ensure fair treatment for teachers and students alike. The specific rules and consequences of our classroom will be established as a class and signed within the first few weeks. If you have any questions regarding the rules, I will be happy to answer any of your questions. Once again, I would like to welcome everyone back from summer vacation. The 2007-2008 school year is going to be a great experience for your child. I would like to thank you in advance for your support and commitment throughout the year.

Best Wishes,
Mrs. Krasnodebski
