March 21, 2008 -- No School
March 24, 2008 -- Spring Break Begins
March 31, 2008 -- Classes Resume
April 24, 2008 -- Early Dismissal
We will continue working on expository writing this week. The topic will be to write about Spring Break. You may begin discussing with your child the events that might occur over Spring Break to better help them begin the thought process for this written language essay.
Reading
This week we will be reading in our China book and outlining some of the chapters. Ask your child what new facts they have learned about China. We also will be making lanterns and Chinese dragons. China's paper lanterns are more than just decorations; since 250 B.C. they have silently spoken of births, deaths, social status and approaching danger. The 5th grade will be having a panda parade. Your child is to decorate their very own panda and give it a name.
Pandas are due Wednesday, March 19th.
IMPORTANT *** March book reports will be due this Wednesday, March 19th.
This week we will use patterns to solve problems. We also will identify congruent figures and investigate transformations, such as flips, slides, and turns. Next we will solve problems involving symmetry. Ask your child what picture they made to show their line of symmetry. Lastly, we will identify parts of a circle and identify solid figures. Upon returning, we will be wrapping up the chapter and taking a test on Friday, April 4th.
